Rodney Lionarons: The Art of Being Ot
October 11 – December 12, 2025 at Café Bern
From October 11 to December 12, 2025 Rodney Lionarons exhibits a number of works in Café Bern with the theme: “The Art of Being Ot”. This refers to what he was called as a little boy: Ottie; because he was always different and did everything in his own way.
Please feel free to drop by. From 4:00-6:00 p.m. you can come and see the exhibition at your ease. Or late at night, after 11:00 p.m., when the rather busy dinner time has finished and a lovely relaxed “after hours” atmosphere has descended on Café Bern.
Below you can already have a preview of some of the works exhibited at Café Bern.
Rodney Lionarons
Paramaribo, 1974
Rodney Brian Lionarons was born in Paramaribo, Suriname and has lived in the Netherlands since his early childhood. In doing so, he carries with him a rich cultural legacy that is deeply intertwined with his work. As an artist, he has moved within the discipline of abstract expressionism since 2000, a form that offers him the freedom to let emotion, energy and intuition speak without limitation.
His work is an ongoing dialogue between chaos and control, between the inner and the outer. He works with a wide range of materials —aerosols, paint, plastic, wood, gold leaf and acrylic pens — to create layered compositions that invite the viewer to reflect and confront. Each medium has its own voice and together they form a visual language that reflects its personal experiences, cultural roots and spiritual quest.
His art is raw, direct and honest. Rodney does not believe in embellishing reality, but in exposing it. By using industrial and natural materials, he combines the urban with the organic, the spiritual with the tangible. His works are not decoration, but statements: an invitation to feel, think and respond.
He sees his studio as a laboratory of expression, where intuition is the guiding principle and imperfection is embraced. Every work is a snapshot of his inner world, an echo of my past and a vision of my future.
Rodney Lionaron is a lecturer of Visual Arts at MBO College West.
